Chapter 27 - Chapter 27 - The Final Hearing

The federal family court room in downtown Manhattan was quiet and solemn on Friday morning, stripped of the chaotic media circus that had accompanied the earlier criminal trials. I sat at the plaintiff's table alongside Victoria, wearing a sharp charcoal-gray tailored suit that radiated professional authority and unyielding resolve. Across the aisle sat Tyler’s court-appointed public defender; Tyler himself appeared via a secure video feed from the federal correctional facility, his hair uncombed, his prison jumpsuit a stark reminder of his total fall from grace. The presiding judge reviewed the final stipulations of the divorce settlement, ensuring that all marital claims, residual asset sharing, and name associations were permanently and legally dissolved. “Are there any final statements from the petitioner?” the judge asked, looking directly into my eyes. I stood up slowly, smoothing my blazer, my voice ringing clear and steady across the silent courtroom. “Only that this chapter is permanently closed, Your Honor. May we enter the decree into the permanent record.” The judge nodded solemnly, striking his gavel down with a sharp, echoing crack. Thud. Just like that, the legal bond binding me to a legacy of fraud and disrespect was shattered forever. Tyler stared blankly into his monitor screen as his final illusion of ownership vanished into legal history.
