Chapter 23 - Chapter 23 - Whispers in the Hamptons

Summer in the Hamptons usually brings out the most ostentatious displays of wealth, status, and superficial networking among society's elite. Attending a private charity auction hosted by one of our major tech partners, I wore a minimalist white silk jumpsuit that drew immediate, respectful attention from every corner of the grand pavilion. People who had once whispered polite pleasantries while secretly courting Tyler’s family now approached me with genuine awe and deference. They saw a self-made titan who had weathered a catastrophic public scandal and emerged stronger, richer, and completely untouchable. As I mingled near the garden terrace, a former associate of Denise approached me, her face flushed with awkward hesitation. “Olivia... it’s wonderful to see you. Everyone is talking about your recent corporate expansion,” she stammered, swirling her champagne flute nervously. I offered a cool, polite smile that didn't reach my eyes. “Thank you. Hard work tends to yield better results than embezzlement,” I replied smoothly, watching her swallow hard before awkwardly excusing herself into the crowd. I didn't need to be cruel; the sheer weight of my unassailable success did all the talking necessary. Walking back out toward the ocean breeze, I realized that true power isn't about crushing your enemies—it's about becoming so completely independent that their existence ceases to affect your peace entirely.
