Chapter 6 - The Boardroom Showdown

The mahogany boardroom on the thirtieth floor was filled to capacity.
Twenty-two members of Vanguard Global’s Board of Governors sat around the massive table, murmuring quietly among themselves. At the head of the table sat Alexander Vance, his posture upright, his expression an unreadable mask of absolute granite.
To his right sat Clara Vance—not in her gray janitorial uniform, but in a sharp, tailored black designer suit, her tablet open to the master logistics audit.
Near the back of the room, sitting in the visitor chairs, were Marcus Thorne and Victoria Sterling. Marcus looked like he was about to vomit, while Victoria maintained a haughty, confident posture, clearly believing they still held all the cards.
"Let us begin," Alexander announced, his deep voice cutting cleanly through the murmur of the room. "Today’s emergency session was called to review our Q4 logistics restructuring and address allegations of operational failure brought forward by certain members of executive management."
Marcus cleared his throat, standing up with a shaky paper folder in his hand. "If I may, Mr. CEO. My department has received multiple anonymous reports indicating that Ms. Vance’s logistics projections are fundamentally flawed and will result in a catastrophic fifty percent drop in regional distribution efficiency."
Murmurs erupted around the board table. Several elderly board members frowned, looking toward Alexander with deep concern.
Victoria leaned forward in her seat, a triumphant smirk playing on her lips.
Alexander didn't interrupt. He let Marcus finish speaking, letting him hang himself with every manufactured statistic he presented. When Marcus finally sat down, wiping sweat from his forehead, Alexander turned his head slowly toward Clara.
"Proceed, Ms. Vance," Alexander said softly.
Clara stood up. She didn't raise her voice. She didn't need to. Her clear, resonant tones carried effortlessly across the silent room.
"Mr. Thorne is entirely correct," Clara stated calmly, her green eyes sweeping across the board members. "Our logistics model will disrupt regional distribution—for his unauthorized, off-the-books third-party vendors."
Marcus jolted upright in his chair, his face turning the color of ash. "That's a lie!"
"Is it?" Clara tapped her tablet, transmitting a live digital feed onto the massive projection screen at the front of the boardroom.
The screen flickered to life, displaying a detailed, crystal-clear financial trail: encrypted file transfers, Caymans shell company ledgers, and intercepted communications between Marcus Thorne and Sterling Marketing Group detailing an active insider trading and stock manipulation scheme.
"Furthermore," Clara continued smoothly, "these logs show that the data was accessed using executive-level credentials—credentials that were mirrored through an unauthorized terminal registered to Ms. Victoria Sterling."
The room exploded into chaos.
Board members shouted over one another, slamming their hands onto the mahogany table. Victoria stood up so fast her chair crashed backward onto the carpet, her face twisted in pure, unadulterated shock and rage.

"This is a forgery!" Victoria shrieked, pointing a trembling finger at Clara. "She’s a cleaning lady! She doesn't even belong in this boardroom! She's a fraud!"
