Chapter 5 - The Trap is Set

Monday morning arrived with the grey, biting chill of a late October storm sweeping in off Lake Michigan.
The atmosphere inside Vanguard Global was thick with nervous energy. The quarterly board meeting was scheduled for the following afternoon, and rumors of an impending supply chain disaster were already rippling through the lower floors—whispers carefully planted by Marcus Thorne and amplified by Victoria Sterling's marketing team.
Clara walked into the building wearing her crisp gray janitorial uniform again.
No one questioned her. To the security guards and passing consultants, she was just the quiet cleaning lady pushing her cart down the third-floor corridor. But inside her cart, beneath a stack of microfiber towels, sat a secure, encrypted flash drive containing the complete digital audit trail compiled by David Rossi.
She stopped outside Marcus Thorne’s private office. The door was ajar.
Marcus was inside, speaking in a harsh whisper on his mobile phone. "...yes, the short-sell is locked in. Once the board sees the distribution failure report tomorrow morning, Vance’s logistics model will be dead on arrival. We'll clean up millions."
Clara smiled faintly behind her surgical mask. She wheeled her cart past the door, leaving a small, unassuming manila envelope resting on the little console table right outside his office.
Inside the envelope was a single printed document: a detailed log of every IP address, file transfer, and Cayman Islands bank account linked to his shell company—with a handwritten sticky note attached in Alexander's unmistakable, sharp handwriting:
*See you in the boardroom tomorrow, Marcus.*
By lunchtime, panic had swept through the procurement department. Marcus was seen pacing frantically outside the executive elevators, his face pale, his phone glued to his ear as he desperately tried to reach Victoria Sterling—who was currently unavailable, locked in a design review meeting on the twenty-fifth floor.

The trap was closing. And there was nowhere left for the rats to run.
