Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Coup
By noon, the financial district of Manhattan was buzzing with rumors. The sudden resignation of Mark Vance from the helm of Vance Enterprises sent shockwaves through the tech and real estate sectors. But the real earthquake happened inside the twenty-fifth-floor boardroom of the Vance Tower.
Diane Vance sat at the head of the long obsidian table, her face caked in expensive makeup to hide the faint bruising on her cheek, surrounded by seven terrified board members who had been summoned to an emergency session.
“This is an outrage!” Diane snapped, slamming her diamond-ringed fist against the mahogany table. “My son has lost his mind, manipulated by a gold-digging wife who thinks she can undermine decades of family legacy! I move for an immediate vote of censure against Mark Vance and his unauthorized removal from the executive registry!”
The heavy oak doors of the boardroom slowly clicked open.
All heads turned. It wasn't Mark who walked in. It was Arthur Vance—Diane’s estranged brother-in-law and the senior partner of Vance & Associates Legal Counsel, a man who hadn't set foot in this building in over a decade.
“You can’t move for anything, Diane,” Arthur said calmly, walking down the center aisle with a thick leather portfolio tucked under his arm.
Diane went completely pale. She stood up from her chair, her voice shaking with rage. “Arthur? What are you doing here? This is a private corporate meeting!”
“Not anymore,” Arthur replied smoothly, stopping at the foot of the table and placing the portfolio down. “As executor of my late brother’s estate, and acting under the power of attorney granted to me by Mark and Clara Vance this morning, I am invoking the morality clause of the master trust.”
He slid a certified legal document across the table toward the lead board member.

“Diane Vance has been formally cited by city police for child abuse and public assault,” Arthur announced to the stunned room. “Under corporate bylaws updated thirty minutes ago with the state attorney general’s office, her voting rights are permanently revoked, her shares are frozen, and her presence on this board is terminated with immediate effect.”
