The Gala's Final Fall / Chapter 10 / 10

Chapter 10 - A New Horizon

Six months later, the legal battles were entirely behind us. Mark was successfully rebuilding Vance Enterprises from the ground up, stripping away the toxic corporate culture of the past and replacing it with integrity, transparency, and community support.

Our suburban estate had become a sanctuary of warmth and laughter. The dark memories of the grand gala and Diane’s cruelty had faded into distant history, replaced by soccer practices, weekend bike rides, and bedtime stories.

It was Lily’s seventh birthday.

We threw her a party in the backyard—no crystal chandeliers, no snobby socialites, no forced etiquette. Just a brightly colored unicorn cake, twenty of her kindergarten friends running through the grass, and a mountain of colorful presents.

Lily stood by the picnic table, wearing a brand-new pink dress, carefully using her fingers to grab a massive slice of chocolate birthday cake with a huge, joyful grin plastered across her face.

She looked up, caught my eye, and giggled, waving a chocolate-stained hand in the air.

“Mommy! Look! I’m eating with my hands!”

May you like

I laughed, walking over and kneeling down beside her, wiping a smudge of frosting from her cheek with a soft napkin.

“Eat however you want, my sweet girl,” I whispered, kissing her forehead as the warm afternoon sun washed over us. “You are home, you are safe, and you are loved exactly as you are.”
