Chapter 3 - The Inheritance Trap

The next morning, the kitchen was filled with the warm, comforting scent of cinnamon pancakes and freshly brewed coffee. Lily was sitting at the breakfast island, happily coloring with a new set of markers I had bought her the previous afternoon, completely back to her bright, cheerful self.
The peace didn't last. At exactly 8:30 AM, our front doorbell began to ring with an aggressive, rhythmic urgency.
Mark walked over to the entryway and pulled the door open. Standing on the porch wasn't Diane, but her longtime personal attorney, a sleek, silver-haired man named Harrison Croft, accompanied by two armed private process servers carrying heavy leather briefcases.
“Mr. Vance,” Croft said smoothly, flashing a cold, practiced smile as he stepped across the threshold uninvited. “I’m here on behalf of Mrs. Diane Vance. As you know, the Vance family trust controls ninety percent of your corporate seed funding and this entire residential estate. Effective immediately, your mother is revoking your access to the family portfolio unless you issue a formal retraction and disassociate yourself from this... unfortunate incident.”
Mark didn't flinch. He didn't step back. He simply folded his arms across his chest and looked down at the attorney with absolute coldness.
“You can tell my mother three things, Harrison,” Mark said, his voice level and steady. “First, my wife and daughter are off limits. Second, I am resigning as managing director of Vance Enterprises effective immediately. And third?” Mark paused, a grim smile touching his lips. “Tell her to check the corporate bylaws she had drafted back in 2012. Section four clearly states that any trustee convicted or legally cited for public child abuse or assault forfeits their controlling shares automatically.”
Croft’s professional smirk faltered instantly. He blinked, staring at Mark in disbelief. “That’s... that’s impossible. Your mother would never include—!”

“Read the fine print, Harrison,” Mark interrupted, stepping aside and pointing toward the front door. “Now get off my property before I have my own security team throw you out.”
