Chapter 7 - Unraveling the Web

With Ryan behind bars awaiting arraignment and Diane fleeing across state lines to avoid a felony arrest warrant, the true scope of their financial conspiracy began to surface.

Two weeks after the courtroom hearing, I sat in my home office reviewing forensic audit reports compiled by Marcus’s investigative team.

The evidence revealed a horrifying financial picture. Ryan hadn't just been trying to stage a custody battle; he had been systematically draining our joint investment accounts to fund speculative real estate ventures with his mother under a secret offshore LLC named Sterling-Holloway Holdings.

They had taken out secondary mortgages on our home without my signature, forged my initials on corporate tax documents, and even attempted to take out a quarter-million-dollar life insurance policy on Noah naming Diane as the primary beneficiary.

“They were playing a long, dangerous game,” Marcus said, leaning against my desk with a cup of coffee. “If they had succeeded in seizing custody, they would have institutionalized Noah under a fabricated psychiatric diagnosis, stripped your shares of the company via proxy guardianship, and vanished offshore.”

“Well, their offshore account is currently frozen under federal fraud investigations,” I replied, scrolling through the frozen asset manifests. “And the only place they’re vanishing to is a federal penitentiary.”

Marcus smiled faintly. “How’s Noah doing? I heard from Clara that he’s been spending a lot of time in the backyard building Lego castles.”

“He’s healing,” I said softly, a genuine warmth touching my heart for the first time in weeks. “Children are resilient when they know they’re safe. We removed every lock from his door, replaced his bedroom furniture, and surrounded him with love. He hasn't mentioned his father once.”

“Good,” Marcus said gently. “Because you have a board meeting this afternoon to finalize the corporate restructuring. Without Ryan’s shadow shares, you now hold absolute majority control of the company.”

I closed my laptop and looked out the window toward the bright green lawn where the afternoon sun was shining warmly.

“Let’s go finalize it,” I said.
