Operation Ghost Ledger

The sun was high in the midday sky by the time the unmarked federal convoy turned off the interstate onto an overgrown gravel road leading deep into the rugged foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains.

Hidden behind a thick grove of wind-swept pines sat the entrance to the decommissioned Cold War communications bunker—a heavy steel blast door embedded directly into the rocky hillside.

According to Julian's remote surveillance feeds, Ryan and Evelyn—having managed to post emergency bail through their underground network associates—had fled straight to the bunker to purge the physical archives before the federal indictment could be processed.

Lisa stepped out of the lead vehicle wearing a tactical communications headset and a dark utility jacket.

"Lisa, this is insane," Julian protested, stepping out of the passenger seat. "You can't walk in there alone. Evelyn is armed and desperate."

"I'm not walking in alone, Julian," Lisa replied, tapping the comms unit in her ear. "I have an entire federal task force listening to every word on a secure open channel. And more importantly... I have a score to settle."

Marcus handed her a compact encrypted override drive. "Plug this directly into their master console. Once it interfaces with their local network, every file, every ledger, and every offshore routing code will instantly mirror back to our command vehicle."

Lisa took the drive, slipped it into her pocket, and walked firmly toward the heavy steel blast door.

The door was slightly ajar. Muted voices echoed from within the concrete corridor.
