Chapter 10 - The Queen on Her Throne

Three weeks later, the Solmere Hotel lobby was once again filled with the elite of the city. But the atmosphere was entirely different. There was no arrogance, no casual cruelty, no blind worship of socialite tyrants. Every single person in the room walked with a quiet, cautious respect, knowing the true queen was watching from above.
In the penthouse suite, Charlotte stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, looking down at the sparkling lights of Manhattan.
The Vanguard empire had been completely dismantled, its assets absorbed back into the Solmere Trust, and its corrupt leaders—including Victor, Julian, and Henderson—were awaiting federal trial in maximum-security federal custody. Jessica Sterling had fled the state, reportedly working as a hostess in a roadside diner in Ohio under an assumed name.
Arthur Pendelton walked into the penthouse, holding a silver tray with a cup of hot black coffee. He set it gently on the table beside her.
“The board has officially ratified the restructuring plan, Miss Vale,” Arthur said with a respectful bow. “The Solmere Empire is more secure than it has ever been in its history.”
Charlotte picked up the coffee cup, taking a slow sip as she watched the sun begin to rise over the horizon, painting the sky in brilliant shades of gold and crimson.
“Thank you, Arthur,” she said softly.
“If I may ask, Miss Vale... what is your next move? The empire is yours. You can rest now.”

Charlotte turned away from the window, walking over to her desk where a framed photograph of her parents stood beside the original, unblemished family crest. She reached out and touched the gold leafing with her fingertips.
“Rest?” Charlotte smiled faintly, her eyes flashing with a fierce, brilliant light. “Arthur, we’re only just getting started.”
