Chapter 6 - The Architect of Deceit

Three days later, the digital forensics team tracked Dr. Julian Vance to a secure private clinic operating under diplomatic cover on the outskirts of the city.

Isabella didn't send enforcers. She went herself.

Accompanied by two armed guards, she stepped out of a black SUV into the sterile, quiet courtyard of the clinic. The heavy glass doors slid open automatically, welcoming her into a pristine white lobby devoid of patients or receptionist staff.

Seated behind a glass desk at the far end of the corridor was Dr. Julian Vance himself—a distinguished-looking man in his late fifties with silver-rimmed glasses and a calm, unbothered demeanor, as if he had been expecting her all along.

“Isabella,” Julian greeted smoothly, not even bothering to stand up. He gestured to the leather chair across from him. “Please, sit. I must admit, it took your uncle longer than I expected to trace the Zurich routing codes. You take after your grandfather in your investigative persistence.”

Isabella didn't sit. She remained standing, her hands resting calmly on her trench coat pockets. “You orchestrated the whole thing. Marco was just a puppet. Why?”

Julian chuckled softly, removing his glasses and polishing them with a silk cloth. “A puppet? Oh, Marco was worse than that—he was a fool who believed his own charm. But my niece Chloe... she executed my instructions to the letter.”

“Instructions to do what? Steal four hundred thousand euros?” Isabella mocked coldly.

“Money is vulgar, Isabella,” Julian said, his eyes suddenly sharpening behind his lenses. “I didn't care about the Bellini family’s petty cash. I wanted access to the Romano sovereign trust protocols. By driving you into a corner of public humiliation, we calculated that your uncle would step in, revealing the encryption keys to your family's secondary offshore accounts during the asset verification process.”

Isabella’s eyes narrowed. He had tried to use her public humiliation as a Trojan horse to hack the syndicate’s financial vault.

“Too bad your calculation failed,” Isabella said flatly. “Because instead of revealing our keys, we dismantled your front companies, ruined your niece, and destroyed the Bellini empire in less than twenty-four hours.”

Julian’s calm facade finally flickered. A dark, ugly sneer crossed his face. “You think you've won, little girl? You’ve only exposed yourself. The people I work for—international syndicates that make the Romano family look like street corner bookies—now know exactly where you are.”

Before Julian could finish his sentence, the windows of the clinic shattered inward with a deafening crash.
