Chapter 6 - The Breach

Dante’s expression hardened instantly into pure, cold steel. The gentle father vanished in a millisecond, replaced once again by the ruthless crime lord who ruled the West Coast underworld with an iron fist.

"Stay in the kitchen," Dante ordered, drawing a sleek, suppressed Sig Sauer P226 from his shoulder holster with practiced, fluid ease.

"Dante, Lily is upstairs!" Chloe panicked, grabbing his arm. "If they're here—"

"I know where my daughter is," Dante interrupted sharply, his voice cutting through her panic like a knife. "Lock the reinforced security shutters using the master panel by the pantry. Do not open this room for anyone unless you hear my voice giving the specific passphrase: Veritas."

Before Chloe could argue, Dante turned and vanished down the dim hallway toward the tactical control center.

Chloe scrambled across the kitchen floor, slamming her hand against the electronic keypad beside the pantry door. A heavy, three-inch-thick steel shutter dropped down from the ceiling with a loud, metallic thud, sealing the kitchen off from the rest of the house.

Inside the enclosed space, the red emergency lights cast long, distorted shadows across the marble counters.

*RAT-TAT-TAT-TAT!*

The muffled sound of automatic gunfire echoed from the lower courtyard. Shouts, breaking glass, and the heavy thud of combat boots reverberated through the ventilation shafts.

Chloe pressed her back against the pantry door, her hands clamped over her mouth to stifle her sobs. She pulled out her burner phone, dialing Mrs. Gable’s extension upstairs.

*Ring... ring... ring...*

"Mrs. Gable, answer me," Chloe whispered fiercely into the tiny screen.

*“Chloe? What is happening? Someone is trying to force the upstairs bedroom door!”* Mrs. Gable’s terrified voice crackled through the speaker.

"Listen to me carefully," Chloe said, her voice shaking violently. "Grab Lily, get into the master walk-in closet, and lock the secondary steel panic door from the inside. Do not come out for anything!"

*“I’m moving, I’m—ahhh!”*

A loud crash echoed through the phone, followed by a sickening thud and a sharp, metallic click as the line went completely dead.
