Chapter 10 - Dawn of a New Empire

The sun rose over the Seattle skyline, painting the grey clouds in brilliant strokes of gold, amber, and crimson.

Chloe stood on the private balcony of the Cascade safehouse, holding a warm cup of coffee, watching the horizon as a black Mercedes-Maybach pulled up smoothly into the driveway below.

The rear door opened, and Dante stepped out. He looked tired, his coat slightly rumpled from the night’s operations, but when he looked up and saw her standing on the balcony, a faint, genuine smile broke across his face.

He walked inside, taking the stairs two at a time, and stepped out onto the balcony a moment later, standing behind her, wrapping his arms securely around her waist and pulling her back against his chest.

"Is it over?" Chloe asked softly, resting her hands over his.

"It’s over," Dante murmured into her hair. "Marcus is gone. His network has been dismantled, and the board has formally transferred all remaining assets to my direct control. No one will ever threaten you or Lily again."

Chloe closed her eyes, letting out a long, shuddering breath that felt as though it carried away three years of constant fear, sleepless nights, and phantom grief.

She turned around in his arms, looking up into his piercing blue eyes—eyes that had terrified her, protected her, and loved her across a chasm of lies and blood.

"Does this mean we're staying?" Chloe asked quietly.

Dante reached out, gently cupping her cheek, his thumb brushing against her lips.

"Only if you'll let me finally give you the home I promised you five years ago," Dante whispered, leaning down to press his lips softly against hers. "Together. Out in the open. As my wife."

Chloe smiled, the last heavy chain around her heart finally shattering into dust, as the morning sun broke fully through the clouds, illuminating their future together.
