Chapter 18 - The Anniversary of Liberation

One year to the day after walking out of that upscale Charleston waterfront restaurant where my marriage had officially died, I returned to the venue—not to look back in sorrow, but to celebrate my absolute liberation.

Marcus and my godfather joined me at a private corner table overlooking the harbor. The evening air was warm and fragrant with jasmine, and the candlelight flickered against the mahogany tabletop, casting a soft, golden glow.

"Can you believe it's already been a year?" Marcus asked, raising his glass of champagne with a proud grin. "Twelve months ago, you walked out of here with nothing but a purse and a burning sense of justice. Look at you now."

"I didn't have nothing, Marcus," I corrected him gently, clinking my glass against his. "I had my father's trust, my own professional expertise, and a very stubborn refusal to be anyone's victim."

"And a lawyer who knows how to evict a tech tycoon before breakfast," Marcus added with a hearty laugh.

Julian joined us shortly afterward, bringing a vibrant bouquet of white roses to mark the milestone. As we dined on exquisite seafood and shared stories of our upcoming global expansions, I looked around the restaurant. The haunting echoes of Nathan’s cruel words—I wish you weren’t my wife—were completely gone, replaced by the joyful laughter of people who truly valued my presence in their lives.

The nightmare was fully behind me. The empire was secure. And my heart, once locked behind walls of self-protection, was finally ready to embrace whatever bright, unwritten chapter came next.
