Chapter 14 - Inside the Courtroom

The federal courthouse in downtown Charleston was a cathedral of solemn gray stone and imposing columns. On the morning of the evidentiary hearing, the courtroom gallery was packed with journalists, corporate analysts, and legal observers eager to witness the final unraveling of the once-celebrated tech executive.

When Nathan was led into the courtroom in a standard orange detention jumpsuit, his wrists and ankles shackled, he looked unrecognizable. The arrogant swagger that once defined him was entirely gone, replaced by a hollow, defeated hunch. He didn't look up at the gallery until he was seated beside his court-appointed public defender.

Then, his eyes scanned the room and locked directly onto mine.

I sat in the front row of the gallery, wearing a crisp charcoal blazer, my posture upright and unyielding. I didn't glare at him, nor did I flinch. I simply looked at him the way a scientist looks at a specimen under a microscope—detached, analytical, and entirely unimpressed.

Nathan’s face flushed a deep, mottled red, and he quickly averted his gaze, staring fixedly at the wooden defense table.

When my name was called to the witness stand, I stepped forward with complete calm, took the oath, and sat down behind the microphone. For the next two hours, the federal prosecutor guided me through the complex web of financial deception Nathan had constructed.

I detailed every fraudulent invoice, every hidden liability, and every forged signature with clinical precision. I explained how Nathan had systematically looted corporate accounts while pretending to be a visionary entrepreneur. When the defense attorney attempted to cross-examine me by suggesting I had been an active participant in the business decisions, I calmly dismantled his argument with certified corporate minutes and unalterable digital timestamps proving I had been systematically excluded from those transactions.

By the time I stepped down from the stand, the case against Nathan was ironclad.
