Chapter 5 - Queen of the Dragon Skies

Three months later, the skies above Highmorne were clear, bright, and filled with the joyful roars of healthy dragons soaring in unhindered freedom.

The corrupt council members had been stripped of their titles and exiled to the southern lowlands to face trial, while the ancient dragon sanctuary was undergoing a massive, progressive renaissance under new leadership.

At the newly reconstructed summit pavilion—overlooking the sprawling, emerald-green valleys of Telan'Shaara—stood Lyra Vance. She now wore the formal mantle of Grand Protector of the Dragon Nursery, a position of supreme honor bestowed upon her by the crown.

Beside her, now fully grown into a majestic, awe-inspiring dragon with starlight scales and wise, glowing violet eyes, lay Vesper, resting his massive head comfortably across her boots like an oversized, fiercely protective house cat.

The heavy oak doors of the balcony opened, and a delegation of foreign dignitaries stepped out, bowing respectfully before her.

"Grand Protector Vance," the lead ambassador said, offering a formal scroll of alliance. "The kingdoms of the lowlands send their deepest regards. They wish to formally establish trade routes and mutual defense pacts with the new Highmorne."

Lyra smiled warmly, taking the scroll. "Tell them Highmorne’s skies are open to all who seek peace, cooperation, and honor."

As the ambassador bowed and departed, Lyra knelt down, scratching Vesper right beneath his chin where his scales were softest. The dragon let out a deep, contented rumble that vibrated through the stone floor of the balcony.

She looked out across the magnificent vista of Telan'Shaara, breathing in the crisp, clean mountain air. The broken orphan who had once had no hope, no home, and no future had not only survived the betrayal of a corrupt empire—she had rewritten its destiny.

And as long as she and Vesper stood side by side atop the spires of Highmorne, the dragon skies would forever belong to the brave.
