Chapter 23 - Letters to Tomorrow

The evening sky turned into a canvas of deep indigo and soft violet as the guests slowly departed, leaving the penthouse quiet and serene. High above the glittering lights of the Chicago skyline, Caroline sat at her antique mahogany writing desk in the master suite.

Before her lay a heavy, leather-bound journal with blank, cream-colored pages—a tradition she had started the day she walked out of Adrian’s study five years ago. Tonight, she was writing the final entry of this volume.

With a smooth fountain pen, she wrote deliberately, her handwriting elegant and firm:

To the future, when these pages are read years from now: Never let anyone convince you that your voice, your mind, or your survival depends on another person's mercy. A cage is only as strong as the walls you allow to hold you. When everything is stripped away, the power to rebuild, to conquer, and to create an empire of light resides entirely within your own hands.

May you like

She set the pen down and allowed the ink to dry, watching the reflection of the city lights shimmering across the glass. The journey had been arduous, demanding every ounce of her resilience, intelligence, and emotional fortitude. But looking back, she wouldn't change a single hurdle. Each trial had forged the unyielding queen she had become.

Closing the journal with a soft, satisfying thud, she walked over to the nursery. Julian was fast asleep in his bed, hugging a small stuffed bear, completely safe and at peace. Caroline adjusted his blanket, kissed his forehead, and whispered, "Sleep well, my love. Everything is safe."
