Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Execution

The emergency board meeting of Montgomery & Hayes Law was convened in a state of sheer panic three hours later.

The mahogany table on the forty-second floor was littered with urgent financial printouts, emergency legal briefs, and federal compliance notifications. Beatrice Montgomery sat at the end of the table, her hands shaking so violently she could barely hold her coffee cup. Julian paced back and forth behind his chair, sweating through his custom-tailored suit.

The glass doors burst open, and Marcus Thorne—the firm's senior financial officer—stumbled into the room, holding an iPad displaying real-time market data.

"It’s over," Marcus breathed, his face ghostly pale. "The municipal board just revoked our harbor development license. Not only that, but every single institutional investor has pulled their capital lines within the last ten minutes."

"Revoked?!" Beatrice shrieked, slamming her fist against the table. "On what grounds?! We have binding contracts!"

"On the grounds of federal fraud and structural negligence," Marcus replied, trembling. "The municipal inspectors audited the stress-analysis models submitted in Julian’s name. They found critical load discrepancies. And... and our primary operating credit line has been frozen."

Julian grabbed the edge of the table, his knuckles turning white. "Frozen by who?! Which bank has the authority to freeze our primary capital without a court order?!"

"Vanguard Capital," Marcus whispered. "Controlled entirely by Dante Moretti."

The name hung in the air like a death sentence. Beatrice slumped back into her chair, her face turning chalk-white as the realization set in that her family’s entire social and financial empire had been dismantled in less than a morning.

"How?" Julian muttered, staring blankly at the wall. "How did Moretti get his hands on our financial routing codes?"

"He didn't need to hack them," a cool, composed voice echoed from the doorway.

All heads snapped toward the entrance.

Elena stood in the doorway, wearing her red Dior suit, flanked by two of Dante’s armed guards. She didn't enter the room; she simply stood on the threshold like an executioner watching a condemned man.

"You..." Julian whispered, his voice cracking with a mixture of rage and terror as he took a step toward her. "You did this. You deliberately set me up!"

"I didn't set you up, Julian," Elena replied calmly, stepping into the room with quiet, lethal grace. "I simply gave you exactly what you asked for. You wanted a high-society alliance with the Sterlings so you could climb to the top. I just made sure the ladder had no rungs."

"I'll destroy you!" Julian lunged forward, his face twisted in desperate rage, but before he could take two steps, Marcus Moretti’s enforcer intercepted him, grabbing Julian by the collar and slamming him back down into his leather chair with bone-crushing force.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you, Mr. Montgomery," Marcus said smoothly, stepping out from behind Elena. "The Don’s patience has limits. And right now, your firm owes Vanguard Syndicate twenty million dollars in defaulted debt collection."

Elena looked down at Julian, who was now trapped, ruined, and utterly powerless.

"Enjoy your marriage, Julian," Elena said quietly, turning on her heel. "Because by tomorrow morning, you won't even have a roof over your head."
