Chapter 6 - The Architect of Chaos

Julian Vance didn't reach for his gun. He slowly pushed his coffee cup away, leaning back in his leather chair with a forced, arrogant smirk.
“Dominic Caruso,” Julian purred, adjusting his cuffs. “I must admit, I didn't think even you would track this down so fast. I assumed Sal’s bomb would finish off half your captains before you even realized you were at war.”
Dominic walked slowly across the concrete floor, his boots echoing in the cavernous space. He stopped five feet from the desk, resting his hands inside his coat pockets.
“Sal is an idiot,” Dominic said calmly. “He thought he could play both sides. But you... you made a fundamental mistake, Julian.”
Julian raised an eyebrow. “Oh? And what was that?”
“You targeted a child,” Dominic said. His voice didn't rise, but the temperature in the room seemed to drop twenty degrees. “In my world, business is business. Men die in turf wars, politicians take bribes, syndicates rise and fall. But when you bring a bomb into a room where a three-year-old is eating cake... you cross a line that cannot be uncrossed.”
Julian scoffed, standing up to his full height. “You think you can touch me, Dominic? Vanguard is backed by international cartels that span three continents. If you kill me, federal regulators, Interpol, and half the Senate will tear your empire apart within forty-eight hours.”
Dominic didn't blink. He pulled a small, encrypted tablet from his pocket and tossed it onto the desk in front of Julian.
The screen lit up, playing a crystal-clear audio recording of Julian’s voice talking on an encrypted satellite phone—the exact conversation Lucy had overheard in the hallway.
“Recognize the voice?” Dominic asked quietly. “That recording was captured by an electronic intelligence sweep my tech team ran on the hotel routers across the street from my estate. It’s already been uploaded to three secure cloud servers controlled by federal prosecutors in New York, Washington, and Philadelphia.”
Julian’s arrogant smirk vanished instantly. His face turned paper-white.
“You... you recorded me?” Julian stammered.
“Not just you,” Dominic replied. “Every wire transfer, every shell company account, every bribe payment Vanguard made to federal judges over the last five years is currently being decrypted by my legal team.”
Dominic leaned forward, his dark eyes locking onto Julian’s terrified gaze.

“Your empire isn't going to tear mine apart, Julian. Mine is going to dismantle yours piece by piece, cell by cell, until there is nothing left of Vanguard except a footnote in a prosecutor’s closing argument.”
