Chapter 5 - The Vanguard Warehouse

The rain was pouring in sheets by midnight, turning the industrial shipping yards along the Delaware River into a slick maze of rusted containers and shadowy cranes.

Dominic’s convoy of black armored SUVs slid silently to a halt outside Warehouse 44—the primary East Coast distribution hub for Vanguard Shipping.

Dante, Dominic’s chief tactical enforcer, stepped out of the lead vehicle with an automatic rifle slung across his chest. “We’ve got twelve armed guards inside, Boss. Mostly mercenaries from overseas. No local police patrols for another hour.”

“Good,” Dominic said, stepping out into the freezing rain, his dark wool coat billowing behind him. “Don't leave anyone standing.”

The heavy steel doors of Warehouse 44 didn't need to be picked. Dominic’s men blew the hinges with a controlled thermal charge, the dull boom swallowed instantly by the roaring thunder overhead.

Chaos erupted inside the warehouse instantly.

Vanguard operatives scrambling behind crates of smuggled electronics were caught completely off guard. Automatic gunfire flashed through the gloom, but Dominic’s men moved with terrifying, surgical precision. Within three minutes, the shooting stopped, and the remaining guards were zip-tied and kneeling on the concrete floor.

At the center of the warehouse, sitting behind a large metal desk surrounded by computer monitors, was a man in an expensive gray suit who looked like he had just realized his luck had run out.

It was Julian Vance—the regional director of Vanguard Shipping and the man who had ordered the hit on Dominic’s family.
