Chapter 5 - A New Horizon**

Six months later, the spring sun was shining brilliantly over a magnificent historic estate in the Hudson Valley, casting a golden warmth across rolling green lawns and blooming cherry blossom trees.
The media storm had long since blown over, replaced by quiet, enduring privacy. Julian Duval had vanished from the public eye entirely, retreating to a modest, debt-ridden existence in upstate New York after settling his remaining liabilities and facing court-mandated oversight. He was a cautionary tale whispered in Manhattan boardrooms—a stark reminder of what happens when a man destroys the foundation of his own success out of arrogance and cruelty.
Inside the grand nursery of our new home, the afternoon light filtered softly through white lace curtains, illuminating pastel walls, hand-carved wooden shelving, and two gorgeous, matching cribs.
Yes, life had surprised us with a final, beautiful plot twist.
At thirty-six weeks, an ultrasound had revealed not one, but two healthy, thriving miracles: a baby boy with Gabriel’s intense, focused eyes, and a baby girl with my stubborn spirit.
Liam and Maya were currently sleeping peacefully in their cribs, wrapped in soft organic cotton blankets while a gentle white-noise machine hummed quietly in the corner.
I stood by the window, wearing a comfortable cream cashmere sweater, holding a warm cup of coffee as I watched them breathe. Footsteps echoed softly down the hardwood hallway, and a familiar, comforting pair of arms wrapped securely around my waist from behind. Gabriel rested his chin gently on my shoulder, inhaling the scent of my hair before pressing a soft kiss to my neck.
“They’re finally asleep,” Gabriel whispered, smiling as he looked past me into the cribs. “Which means I finally have your undivided attention.”
I leaned back against his solid, reassuring chest, turning slightly to wrap my arms around his neck. “Is that so? And what does Mr. Lancaster require of my undivided attention?”
Gabriel reached into his pocket, pulling out a small, velvet-covered jeweler’s box. He didn't drop to one knee—we had already bypassed the traditional clichés long ago, building our bond through shared survival, mutual respect, and fierce, unshakeable loyalty. Instead, he simply flipped the box open, revealing an exquisite, custom-designed diamond ring that caught the sunlight like a star.
“When I met you in London, you were picking up the shattered pieces of a life someone else had broken,” Gabriel said softly, his voice thick with emotion. “You didn't ask for a savior, Khloe. You asked for an equal. And every single day since then, you’ve shown me what true strength looks like.” He looked down into my eyes, his gaze steady and profound. “Marry me, Khloe. Let’s build an empire that actually matters—together.”
I looked down at the ring, then up into the eyes of the man who had stood beside me on a terrifying red carpet, who had held my hand through the darkest days of my past, and who loved not just me, but the family we had created together.
The painful memories of my past marriage felt like a lifetime ago—a distant, fading chapter in a book I had long since finished reading.

“Yes,” I whispered, smiling as I pulled him down into a deep, passionate kiss. “A thousand times, yes.”
Downstairs, the front doorbell chimed softly, but neither of us moved. Let the world ring its bells, let the past fade into the wind, and let the future unfold. For the first time in my life, I was standing in the brilliant, unshadowed light of my own story—and the best part of my life was only just beginning.
