Chapter 1 - The Red Carpet Reveal**

The red carpet outside the grand ballroom of the Allesian Hearts Gala was a blinding storm of flashing strobes, shouting photographers, and high-fashion luxury. On the live broadcast beaming across millions of screens nationwide, my ex-husband, Julian Duval, had stood effortlessly beside his twenty-six-year-old fiancée, Dalia Fontaine. When a persistent gossip reporter had thrust a microphone toward him and asked whether I might make an appearance tonight, Julian had thrown his head back and laughed softly.
*“I doubt she’ll show her face,”* he had said with the smug, untouchable confidence of a man who believed I was still hiding away in some distant corner of Europe, drowning in the shame of our public divorce, the toxic tabloid headlines, and the agonizing grief of the three miscarriages we had endured during our marriage. Julian believed he had successfully rewritten our history, reducing me to the broken, defective first wife who simply couldn't handle his meteoric rise to corporate dominance.
What Julian did not know—what his arrogant, calculated little world had completely failed to account for—was that I was already sitting in the back of a bulletproof Maybach parked just fifty feet away, watching his televised arrogance play out on a tablet screen.
Beside me sat Gabriel Lancaster, the billionaire tech investor and venture capitalist I had met two years earlier during my harrowing exile in London. While I was busy rebuilding my life from the ashes of my ruined marriage, turning my quiet market analytics background into a multi-million-dollar tech advisory firm, Gabriel had become my anchor. He didn't offer empty platitudes, he didn't tell me to take the high road, and he never once made my past trauma feel like an inconvenience. When I stared at Julian’s sneering face on the screen, feeling a familiar, cold knot of anxiety twist in my stomach, Gabriel had simply reached across the leather console, taken my trembling hand, and asked if I wanted to turn around.
When I whispered that I was tired of hiding, Gabriel had smiled, kissed my knuckles, and given the driver a single word: "Let’s go."
My left hand rested protectively over the undeniable, beautiful curve of my five-month pregnancy. For years, the tabloid press had dissected my body, my fertility struggles, and my heartbreak like vultures picking at a carcass, always subtly painting me as the anchor dragging Julian down. They never printed the late nights I spent ghost-writing his company’s foundational pitch decks, the emergency financing strategies I engineered when his first startup was on the brink of bankruptcy, or the empty nursery I cried in while Julian flew to Monaco with his investors. And they certainly didn't know that life had given me a second chance—that I was carrying a healthy, thriving child.
Gabriel stepped out of the luxury vehicle first, his sharp charcoal bespoke suit catching the camera flashes as a wall of reporters instantly began shouting his name. Then, he turned back, extended his hand into the dark interior of the car, and waited.
When I placed my hand in his and stepped out onto the red carpet wearing a backless, curve-hugging black velvet gown, the chaotic noise of the press corps died down for a single, breathtaking second.
Then recognition hit.
The whispers cascaded down the line like wildfire. Someone screamed my name, followed instantly by a collective gasp as the camera lenses dropped from Julian and Dalia—who were standing near the entrance doors—and locked entirely onto me. Then, a sharp-eyed photographer caught the unmistakable contour of my pregnant stomach beneath the rich velvet fabric, and the red carpet erupted into pure, unadulterated pandemonium.
*"Khloe! Are you pregnant?!"* a reporter screamed, shoving a microphone forward.
*"Who’s the father, Khloe? Is it Gabriel?!"* another yelled over the din of clicking shutters.

Every single self-preservation instinct drilled into me during my years as Julian Duval’s dutiful, invisible wife screamed at me to turn around, shield my face, and protect Julian from the PR scandal my mere existence represented. But I didn't flinch. I kept my chin high, my posture immaculate, and walked forward with a calm, unshakeable grace that stunned the world.
