Chapter 9 - The Legacy of Ice

Six months after the boardroom coup, Sterling & Vance Capital held its annual charity gala—not at the Manhattan Financial Club where Victoria had tried to orchestrate my ruin, but at the newly opened Sterling Pavilion, a state-of-the-art philanthropic center funded entirely by the firm’s record-breaking quarterly profits.

The ballroom was breathtaking. Instead of traditional crimson and gold, the decor featured cool silver accents, cascading crystal installations, and thousands of white orchids.

I stood at the top of the grand staircase, wearing a custom-designed, backless silver-mesh gown that shimmered like moonlight against my skin. My signature white hair was styled into an intricate, braided crown woven with delicate platinum threads.

Marcus Vance walked up the steps beside me, offering his arm with a warm, respectful smile.

“Ready to make an entrance, Madam Managing Director?” Marcus asked gently.

“I always am, Marcus,” I smiled, linking my arm through his.

As we descended the staircase, the room fell into a respectful, admiring hush. Flashbulbs went off like a constellation of stars, capturing every angle of the woman the financial press now universally referred to as The Silver Empress of Wall Street.

There was no fear in my chest. No lingering shadow of my stepsister’s petty cruelty. Every person in this room knew my name, respected my authority, and understood that crossing me was an act of corporate suicide.

Victoria was still hiding somewhere in the Swiss Alps, living off a heavily restricted allowance, completely forgotten by the city that had once bowed to her family name.

She had tried to bury me in bleach and humiliation.

She had forgotten that some things don't fade in the dark.

Some things only shine brighter under pressure.
