Chapter 6 - The Fall of the Matriarch

Victoria Sterling sat in her Fifth Avenue penthouse living room, surrounded by priceless oil paintings and antique porcelain, sipping espresso from a delicate Meissen cup.

She wasn't panicking. Women like Victoria didn't panic—they negotiated, they bribed, they survived. She had spent forty years building the Sterling name in New York high society; a few angry words from her estranged son wouldn't change the fact that the city’s judges and politicians owed her favors.

Suddenly, the heavy oak double doors of her penthouse shattered inward with a deafening crash.

Dust billowed into the luxurious room as three armed security operatives in black tactical gear poured through the entrance, securing every corner in swift, silent military precision.

Victoria dropped her espresso cup, the porcelain shattering against the Persian rug as dark coffee stained the wool.

“What is the meaning of this?!” Victoria shrieked, standing up and smoothing her designer skirt with trembling hands. “How dare you break into my home! I will have every single one of you arrested!”

Dante stepped through the doorway, his face expressionless, holding a heavy manila folder. Behind him walked Marcus.

Marcus didn't look angry anymore. His expression was mask-like, cold, and utterly devoid of filial affection.

“You can’t arrest us, Mom,” Marcus said calmly, walking into the living room and sitting down uninvited on her velvet sofa. “Because the police are already waiting in the lobby.”

Victoria’s face twisted in desperate rage. “Marcus! You are treating your own mother like a common criminal over some ungrateful brat and a penniless woman? I gave you life! I built this empire with your father!”

“You didn't build anything,” Marcus replied, tossing the red audit binder onto her coffee table. “You stole it. You stole four years of my daughter’s childhood. You watched Clara waste away in a basement while you wore pearls bought with money meant for baby formula.”

“It was business!” Victoria screamed, losing her aristocratic veneer entirely, her face flushing crimson. “You were distracted by your overseas ventures! You needed a lesson in discipline! Those peasants didn't deserve—!”

Marcus raised his hand, cutting her off instantly.

“Dante, read her the charges.”

Dante opened the folder. “Victoria Sterling, you are being placed under citizen’s arrest pursuant to federal warrants for grand larceny, wire fraud, identity theft, child endangerment, and interstate financial laundering.”

Two female federal marshals stepped out from behind the tactical team, walking directly toward Victoria with handcuffs gleaming in the afternoon light.

“Don't touch me! Get your hands off me!” Victoria thrashed wildly as the cold steel clicked around her wrists, her expensive silk blouse tearing as she was hauled toward the private elevator.

As the doors closed, her muffled screams echoed down the shaft: “Marcus! I am your mother! You’ll regret this!”

Marcus didn't blink. He simply turned around and walked out of the penthouse.
