Chapter 10 - The Hidden Vault
Julian motioned for Sarah to sit down at the living room sofa, pouring her a cup of hot black coffee while the boys played quietly in the corner with their wooden blocks under Marcus's watchful eye.
"What didn't you tell us, Sarah?" Julian asked, taking a seat beside Clara and resting his arm along the back of the sofa.
Sarah wrapped her hands around the warm ceramic mug, taking a slow sip before looking up. "The night of the fire at St. Jude’s... it wasn't just about covering up the birth records and abducting one of the twins."
Clara’s breath hitched. "What do you mean?"
"Arthur wasn't acting alone," Sarah explained, her voice dropping to a tense whisper. "He had a silent partner—a silent investor who funded the entire maternity ward expansion specifically to create an off-the-books medical research wing. They weren't just manipulating family trusts, Clara. They were running long-term genetic mapping studies on premature infants."
Julian’s eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. "Genetic mapping? Whose infants?"
"Yours," Sarah said grimly, looking directly at Julian. "From the moment you and Clara were engaged in college, Arthur knew your family bloodline possessed a rare genetic marker related to cellular regeneration and neural resilience—something your tech company was investing millions into developing commercially. He engineered your marriage to Victoria, engineered the pregnancies, and when Clara gave birth to identical twins, they realized the genetic yield was twice what they anticipated."
