Chapter 5 - A New Horizon**

Six months later, the Mediterranean sun warmed the white stone terrace of a private villa overlooking the sparkling blue waters of the Amalfi Coast.
Victoria sat at a wrought-iron table shaded by blooming bougainvillea, reviewing a final portfolio of international acquisitions for her newly expanded firm, Vance Global Enterprises. The hostile takeover of Vextor Dynamics had been successfully completed months ago, its remaining assets restructured under her direct leadership, while the Lawson family name had retreated into quiet, scandal-ridden obscurity in Arizona, busy dealing with the fallout of Jonathan’s elaborate genetic sabotage and federal fraud investigations. Michelle had been legally prosecuted and was currently facing trial for fraud and conspiracy, while the twins were placed under the care of court-appointed guardians within a neutral branch of the extended family trust.
As for Christopher, he was working a low-level administrative job in a regional logistics firm in the Midwest—a bitter, anonymous existence far away from the boardrooms and luxury penthouses he once ruled with such arrogant cruelty.
A gentle breeze rustled the papers on Victoria’s desk. She looked up, shading her eyes against the golden afternoon light.
Footsteps approached from behind—light, steady, and entirely unhurried. A warm hand rested gently on her shoulder, and a cup of freshly brewed artisan coffee was placed beside her laptop.
Julian Vance, a brilliant international corporate strategist and her new chief partner—both in business and in life—smiled down at her, his eyes warm and completely sincere.
"You've been staring at those spreadsheets for three hours straight," Julian noted softly, pulling up a chair beside her. "Even the most ruthless corporate titan in North America is allowed to take a lunch break on the Amalfi Coast."
Victoria smiled, a genuine, radiant smile that she had never once been able to share during her years trapped in the suffocating shadow of the Lawson marriage. She closed her laptop lid, leaned back against the comfortable cushions, and looked out over the endless expanse of the sea.
"I'm not working," she said, taking a sip of her coffee. "I'm just admiring the view."
"And what do you see?" Julian asked, tilting his head with an amused, loving spark in his eyes.
May you like
Victoria looked out toward the horizon, where the sky met the water in a seamless, unbroken line of pure light and possibility.
"Nothing," she replied softly, her voice filled with absolute peace and freedom. "Just a horizon with no ceilings, no cages, and no ghosts."
