Chapter 2 - The Secrets of the Tucson Clinic**

Three days before the disastrous family gathering in Phoenix, Victoria sat in her quiet San Diego apartment, watching the desert sunset paint the Pacific coastline in shades of bruised orange and purple. Her phone buzzed continuously on the glass coffee table. It was Christopher, alternating between furious voicemails demanding she return the transferred corporate assets and panicked texts asking how Evelyn had found out about the twins' arrival date.
Victoria ignored them all. She picked up a thick, leather-bound folder marked Confidential: Tucson Medical Registry & Private Investigations, flipping open to page forty-two.
When Christopher had first filed for divorce, claiming Victoria was "barren" and praising Michelle's sudden, miraculous fertility, Victoria hadn't cried. Instead, she had hired a private investigator who specialized in corporate espionage and hidden personal assets. She knew Michelle and Christopher had been secretly meeting for over a year before her departure. But what the investigator uncovered went far deeper than a simple workplace affair.
It led straight to the Desert Sun Fertility and Genetic Institute in Tucson, Arizona—a high-end, secretive clinic heavily funded by anonymous shell companies.
And one of those shell companies was tied directly to Jonathan Lawson.
Victoria traced her finger over a series of wire-transfer receipts and medical consent forms. Michelle hadn't conceived naturally with Christopher. In fact, medical records showed that Christopher had been sterile for years due to a childhood illness—a medical secret that only Christopher’s mother, Evelyn, and his doctors had ever known. Christopher was biologically incapable of having children.
So how had Michelle given birth to twins?
Through a clandestine embryo swap and fertilization program orchestrated by Jonathan Lawson while he was hiding out in the Southwest, seeking ultimate revenge against the Lawson family empire that had cast him out. Jonathan had used his own genetic material, paying off corrupt clinic administrators to substitute samples, ensuring that the next generation of the Lawson dynasty would not belong to Christopher at all, but to the exiled brother. Michelle, blinded by greed and promised a share of the Lawson fortune by Jonathan, had played her part, fully believing she was tricking Christopher into raising an heir while securing her own financial future.
Except Jonathan hadn't planned on Victoria finding out. And he certainly hadn't planned on Victoria quietly feeding the exact timeline, clinic names, and DNA profile leads straight to Evelyn Lawson, knowing that Evelyn’s obsessive pride would do the rest of the work.

Victoria closed the folder, a cold, satisfied smile touching her lips. Christopher had wanted a family that she "could never give him." Now, he was about to discover that the family he was fighting so desperately to claim didn't share a single drop of his blood.
