Chapter 8 - The New Boardroom

“As my first official act as chairman,” Ethan continued, his voice echoing off the mahogany walls with chilling precision, “I am conducting an immediate internal audit of all corporate subsidiaries, executive compensation packages, and disciplinary actions taken across our affiliated dining and hospitality groups.”

He turned his head slowly, locking his dark eyes onto his father.

“Starting with the illegal termination and harassment of employee Mary Lin.”

Christopher stood up, his chair crashing backward against the wall. “Ethan, you are destroying our family legacy over a waitress?! Have you lost your mind? She’s a nobody! She doesn't belong in our world!”

“She belongs wherever she chooses to be,” Ethan said, his voice cold and absolute. He walked over to where I was standing, stopping just a foot away. He didn't look at his father anymore; he looked down at me, a soft, respectful warmth returning to his eyes. He signed gently: Are you ready to come to work?

I looked at Christopher Hale—defeated, sputtering, and trapped by his own corporate structures—and then back at Ethan, who had found his courage in the middle of a storm.

“I think,” I said, offering Ethan a bright, genuine smile, “my shift here is officially over.”

Ethan nodded. He turned back to the lawyers and his stunned father one last time. “Have the security team escort Mr. Hale out of the building. Revoke his corporate credit cards and freeze his primary accounts pending the forensic audit.”

“You’ll regret this!” Christopher roared as the two corporate attorneys stepped forward, blocking his path to the door. “You’ll be begging for my help by the end of the month!”

May you like

Ethan didn't even bother to look back as we walked out of the office together, leaving the billionaire shouting at an empty room.
