Chapter 7 - The Inheritance Clause

“She doesn't need your money, Father. Because she works for me now.”

The voice made both Christopher and me whip our heads toward the doorway.

Ethan stood in the entrance, wearing a sharp navy blazer, his posture straight, his eyes burning with absolute authority. Behind him stood two men in tailored charcoal suits—corporate attorneys holding thick leather briefcases.

Christopher’s face turned from ash to a dark, furious crimson. He slammed his hand down on the desk. “Ethan! How dare you walk into my business meeting—”

“It’s not your business meeting anymore, Dad,” Ethan interrupted, his voice surprisingly calm and steady. He stepped fully into the room, flanked by his legal team. He signed while he spoke, making sure every gesture was clear and undeniable: “As of 9:00 AM this morning, my legal representation filed the paperwork activating the primary trustee restructuring clause under my late mother’s estate.”

Christopher froze. The color drained completely from his cheeks, leaving him looking suddenly old, brittle, and terrified.

“You... you can’t do that,” Christopher whispered, his voice shaking. “That clause requires a board consensus—”

“Which I secured last night,” Ethan replied smoothly, pulling a crisp, stamped legal document from his briefcase and placing it over the torn pieces of the check on his father’s desk. “Mother left fifty-one percent voting control of Hale Tech and real estate holdings to me upon my twenty-fifth birthday—which was yesterday. As of this morning, I am the controlling chairman of the board.”

The general manager in the corner of the room gasped, sliding down the wall until he was practically sitting on the floor.

I stood motionless, watching the power dynamic in the room shift in real-time. The untouchable tech billionaire was suddenly a deposed king, staring down at his own son with a look of helpless betrayal.
