Chapter 5 - The Heirloom of the Depths

By dawn, the Vance Global Shipping headquarters was a whirlwind of federal agents, investigative journalists, and emergency financial auditors.
Victor Vance had been led out of the building in handcuffs, his head ducked low beneath a black jacket as flashbulbs blinded him from every angle. The media frenzy was instantaneous; #TheSaltwaterPhantom was trending worldwide within two hours as the unbelievable story of a woman returning from a five-year watery grave broke across global news networks.
Inside the private executive penthouse suite overlooking the harbor, Elena stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, watching the sunrise paint the gray Seattle sky in brilliant shades of amber and gold.
The door opened softly, and Aiden walked in, carrying two cups of black coffee. He set one down on the marble desk and stepped up beside her, staring out at the water.
"The federal marshals have frozen all of Victor's personal accounts," Aiden said quietly. "The board has officially reinstated you as majority chairwoman. By noon, Vance Global is legally yours again."
Elena didn't turn around. She reached up, touching the silver serpent ring on her finger.
"It was never just about the company, Aiden," she whispered.
Aiden frowned, looking down at her profile. "What do you mean?"
Elena finally turned to face him, her amber eyes holding a deep, ancient secret that he had never noticed before the night she fell off the pier.
"When Victor pushed me into the dark water five years ago, I didn't just drown," Elena said, her voice dropping into a low, ethereal hum. "Something in the deep ocean answered me. Something older than corporations, older than betrayal, older than death itself."
Aiden took a step back, a sudden chill running down his spine. "Elena... what are you talking about?"
Before Elena could answer, the secure intercom on the desk chimed sharply.
Marcus, the head of corporate security,’s voice crackled through the speaker, tight and panicked. "Miss Vance! We have a severe security breach on the ground floor. A team of unknown armed operatives just bypassed the biometric locks using an old master code that hasn't been active since your father's era."
Elena didn't look surprised. A cold, knowing smile touched the corners of her lips.

"Tell them to come on up, Marcus," Elena replied smoothly. "The cleanup crew has finally arrived."
