Chapter 4 - The Confession in the Dark

"Security! Seize her!" Victor screamed, his voice cracking with hysteria as he pointed a shaking finger at Elena. "She's an impostor! A lunatic! Remove her from the building immediately!"
None of the board members moved. None of the security guards rushed into the room.
From the shadows near the double doors, Aiden stepped forward, holding a heavy laptop connected to the boardroom’s main projector screen.
"Don't bother calling security, Victor," Aiden said coldly, plugging a flash drive into the console. "They’re currently tied up answering federal subpoenas issued twenty minutes ago by the state attorney general."
A massive high-definition video feed flickered to life on the projection screen behind the table.
It wasn't a corporate presentation. It was a digital audio-visual recording dated five years ago, captured from a hidden dashcam parked near the East Pier.
The audio played clear as crystal through the surround-sound speakers:
*“Just make sure the brakes fail on the curve near the cliff,”* Victor’s voice echoed clearly across the silent boardroom. “Once the car goes into the drink, make sure her body stays down. I want absolute control of the board by Monday morning.”
The faces of the board members turned pale as they stared at the screen, then back at Victor, who stood paralyzed, his mouth opening and closing without sound.
"You signed your own confession the night you hired those offshore contractors, Victor," Elena said softly, walking slowly around the table toward him. "You thought you buried me in the ocean. But the ocean didn't want me. It kept me alive just long enough to watch you tear your own empire apart."
Victor backed away until his spine hit the glass window. He looked around the room, realizing every ally, every lawyer, and every board member had already turned their chairs away from him in sheer disgust.
"You can't do this," Victor whimpered, sliding down the wall until he sat on the floor, clutching his head in his hands. "I'm your family..."

"Family doesn't tie cinder blocks to a woman's ankles," Elena said, her voice devoid of all mercy. "Enjoy your stay in federal custody, Uncle. Because by morning, I’m taking back every single share you stole."
