Chapter 6 - The Ledger of Lies

Arthur let out a harsh, nervous laugh, looking around the room at the silent board members.

“Save your melodramatic speeches for the federal prosecutors, Julian!” Arthur barked, tossing a thick red folder across the polished mahogany table. “These are the certified audit reports from the independent oversight committee. They prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that you systematically diverted forty-eight million dollars of corporate reserve funds into offshore accounts!”

Julian didn't even glance down at the red folder. He slowly slid a slim, cream-colored envelope across the table toward Arthur.

“What is this?” Arthur frowned, staring suspiciously at the envelope.

“Open it,” Julian instructed softly.

Arthur snatched the envelope up, tore open the flap, and pulled out a single sheet of heavy parchment paper, along with a certified bank receipt and a notarized affidavit.

As Arthur’s eyes scanned the first two lines, the arrogant color drained entirely from his face. His hands began to shake so violently that the paper rustled loudly in the quiet boardroom.

“No... this... this is impossible,” Arthur whispered, his voice trembling. “How did you... where did you get this?”

“You forgot something fundamental when you tried to frame me, Uncle,” Julian said, leaning forward, his voice dropping into a razor-sharp whisper. “Greed makes people sloppy. When you forged those subsidiary transfer orders three weeks ago, you routed them through a secondary server managed by Vance Holdings Luxembourg—a shell company you secretly inherited from your grandfather.”

Arthur staggered backward, gripping the edge of the mahogany table to keep from falling.

“That account was closed ten years ago!” Arthur shrieked.

“It was never closed,” Julian corrected him smoothly, tapping his finger on the table. “I bought the remaining debt on that portfolio eighteen months ago. Every single fraudulent transaction you executed to frame me was automatically cross-referenced, timestamped, and mirrored directly to the federal cybercrime division before you even hit send on your leaked email blast.”

The independent board members stared at Arthur in stunned, horrified silence. The senior legal counsel slowly stood up, pushing his glasses up his nose.

“Mr. Arthur Vance,” the attorney announced coldly. “In light of these verified documents, the board is formally revoking your executive privileges, freezing all of your personal assets pending criminal investigation, and cooperating fully with federal authorities.”

Two corporate security guards in dark suits stepped silently into the boardroom from the side exit, walking straight toward Arthur.

“Get your hands off me!” Arthur screamed, thrashing wildly as the guards grabbed his arms and dragged him toward the private elevators, his frantic, desperate curses echoing down the long hallway until the heavy doors sealed shut.
