Chapter 5 - The Sunrise Tribunal

The glass-walled executive boardroom on the seventieth floor of Vance Tower in London overlooked the sprawling, fog-drenched expanse of the Thames River. The morning sun was just beginning to pierce through the gray haze, casting long, sharp shadows across the white marble floor.

At precisely 8:55 AM, the heavy oak doors swung open.

Arthur Vance marched into the room, flanked by two corporate attorneys and three nervous-looking independent board members. Arthur was impeccably dressed in a bespoke charcoal suit, his silver hair combed back with immaculate precision, a triumphant, arrogant smirk plastered across his face.

He walked directly to the head of the mahogany table—the seat reserved exclusively for the Chief Executive Officer—and pulled out the chair.

“Good morning, gentlemen,” Arthur announced loudly, settling into the chair as if he already owned the building. “As acting chairman of the emergency governance committee, I call this meeting to order. In light of the severe regulatory investigations currently targeting Mr. Julian Vance—”

The heavy double doors at the far end of the boardroom clicked open.

Every head in the room turned.

Julian walked in. He wasn't wearing a tie. The top two buttons of his crisp white shirt were unbuttoned, his expression utterly serene, carrying the effortless, terrifying poise of a man who held all the cards before the game even began.

“You’re early, Uncle Arthur,” Julian said smoothly, walking down the center aisle toward the table. “And you’re sitting in my chair.”

Arthur’s smirk faltered for a fraction of a second before he recovered his arrogant facade. He slammed his palm onto the table.

“Your chair?!” Arthur sneered, standing up to his full height. “Look around you, boy! The SEC is investigating your accounts! The European subsidiaries have locked you out! You are finished! By the end of this hour, this board will vote unanimously to strip you of your authority and hand the company over to me!”

Julian didn't raise his voice. He didn't even quicken his pace. He calmly pulled out the chair directly opposite Arthur, sat down, and folded his hands on the table.

“You spent thirty years scheming, embezzling, and waiting for my father to die so you could inherit this empire,” Julian said quietly, his dark eyes locked onto his uncle’s sweating face. “You thought you understood power. But you never understood what it takes to actually build something from nothing.”
