Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Circle

Six months later, the spring flowers were beginning to bloom across the lawns of Chicago, painting the city in vibrant shades of purple and green.
Clara Sterling sat at her desk in the sunlit office of The Safe Haven, reviewing the quarterly expansion proposals for two new regional support centers funded by the Sterling Foundation. The organization was growing, reaching out to more women and children who needed a lifeline in their darkest hours.
The front door chimed, and soft, familiar footsteps echoed down the hallway.
Maya walked into the office carrying a tray of freshly baked pastries from Sarah’s downtown bakery, with four-year-old Leo running ahead of her to hand Clara a brightly colored drawing of a sun and a house.
"We brought breakfast!" Maya announced brightly, her face glowing with health, confidence, and absolute joy. "And Leo insisted on delivering the masterpiece himself."
Clara accepted the drawing with a delighted laugh, pinning it proudly to the bulletin board right beside her desk next to dozens of other photographs of women and children who had reclaimed their lives within these walls.
She looked around the room—at Maya, at the bustling hallway outside where intake volunteers were organizing educational workshops, and at the quiet strength that radiated from every corner of the house.
She had spent years searching for a way to heal the fractures of her own past, believing that true power came from control and defense. But she finally understood the ultimate truth of her journey: true strength wasn't found in building walls to keep the world out.

It was found in opening doors to let the light back in.
And as long as there were women looking for a way out of the dark, Clara Sterling would be right there, holding the key, ready to show them that they were never, ever alone.
