Chapter 7 - The Drake Tower Confrontation

The lobby of Drake Logistics was a gleaming monument of steel, glass, and intimidating corporate architecture. Mark Sterling walked through the revolving doors without breaking stride, ignoring the frantic receptionist who scrambled out from behind the marble counter.
“Sir! You can’t go up there! Mr. Drake is in a board meeting!” she shouted.
Mark didn't stop. He swiped a master executive security card he had retained from an old joint-venture partnership straight through the private elevator reader. The LED light flashed green, and the doors slid shut, rocketing him straight to the penthouse level.
When the elevator doors opened on the top floor, Harrison Drake stood by the panoramic glass windows, holding a crystal tumbler of scotch, looking out over the city skyline.
“I knew you’d come, Mark,” Drake said smoothly, not even turning around. “Though I expected you to be a bit more diplomatic.”
Mark crossed the room in three long strides, grabbing Drake by the expensive lapels of his suit jacket and slamming him hard against the floor-to-ceiling glass window. The glass flexed under the impact, thirty floors above the street.
“You sent an assassin into my home,” Mark hissed, his face inches from Drake’s, his eyes burning with lethal intent. “You put my daughter’s life at risk.”
Drake gasped for air, his scotch glass tumbling from his hand to shatter against the hardwood floor. But despite his precarious position, a smug, arrogant smile spread across his face.

“You can choke me all you want, Mark,” Drake wheezed, grabbing Mark’s wrists. “Even if you kill me, the acquisition documents were electronically signed and filed with the federal trade commission twenty minutes ago. Sterling Logistics belongs to Drake Holdings now.”
