Chapter 10 - The Moretti Legacy

Three months later, the front page of the Financial Times featured a massive headline:

*“Moretti Capital Consolidates Manhattan Real Estate Empire Under New Executive Leadership Partnership.”*

Inside the penthouse suite, the air smelled of fresh coffee and autumn rain.

Eleanor Moretti sat on the white leather sofa, laughing as she reviewed architectural layouts for a new charitable wing of the New York Presbyterian Hospital—a wing fully funded by a joint endowment bearing my mother’s name. My mother was recovering smoothly, her treatments fully sponsored and her health improving by the day.

I sat behind the mahogany desk, reviewing the final corporate merger documents, wearing a sharp tailored blazer that suited my new role as Senior Managing Director of Moretti Capital Holdings.

The heavy oak door opened, and Lorenzo walked in. He didn't look like an untouchable, ruthless billionaire in that moment; he looked like a man coming home. He walked straight up to the desk, leaned down, and pressed a soft, lingering kiss to my lips right there in the middle of the afternoon.

“Meeting adjourned for the day,” Lorenzo whispered against my ear, a faint smile playing at the corners of his mouth.

I closed the folder, turned off my computer screen, and smiled up at the man who had changed my life forever.

From a terrified waitress dodging flying crystal in a crowded ballroom to the woman standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the most powerful man in New York, I had learned the ultimate truth of our world: true power isn't about the money in your bank account or the name on your invitation card. It’s about standing your ground when everyone else runs away—and building an empire that can never be broken.
