Chapter 4 - The Ransom and the Wrath**

The illusion of safety shattered forty-eight hours later.

It happened on a rainy Tuesday afternoon while Luca was downtown handling a volatile shipping dispute with a rival syndicate faction. Emma was at the estate’s private conservatory reviewing inventory spreadsheets when the heavy glass doors shattered inward.

Before she could scream, heavy hands grabbed her arms, pinning her against the stone table.

It wasn't random thugs. It was men wearing Camille Russo’s family crest pins—enforcers hired by a desperate, humiliated woman looking to strike Luca Moretti where it hurt the most.

“The boss wants to send a message to her precious mafia boyfriend,” a scarred enforcer sneered, binding Emma’s wrists with industrial zip ties. “Let’s see how tough Luca Moretti is when his favorite maid is hanging off a freight pier.”

Emma’s heart hammered, but her operations manager brain didn't panic. She didn't cry. Instead, she memorized every face, noted the make of their radio equipment, and deliberately dropped her encrypted corporate tablet onto the greenhouse floor so its GPS beacon would broadcast her exact coordinates straight to Luca’s master terminal.

Within twenty minutes, Luca’s phone pinged with an emergency distress alert.

The screen flashed: Device compromised. Location: Pier 44 Industrial Warehouse.

If Luca Moretti’s enemies had wanted to start a war, they had just found the exact button to trigger an extinction-level event.

At Pier 44, the rain poured down in sheets, slicking the concrete docks with gray sludge. Inside the dilapidated warehouse, Emma sat tied to a wooden chair, her jaw set with furious defiance as Camille Russo paced back and forth in front of her, holding a silver revolver with trembling hands.

“You think you won, don't you?” Camille spat, her mascara running in the rain leaking through the rusted roof. “You think a plus-size nobody from the accounting department gets to play queen in Luca Moretti’s world? He’s going to watch you drown, and then he’s going to realize you were never worth the trouble.”

“You’re pathetic, Camille,” Emma said evenly, refusing to cower. “If you think kidnapping me is going to win Luca back, you clearly don't understand the man at all. He’s not going to negotiate. He’s going to dismantle everything you love.”

Before Camille could raise the gun in blind rage, the heavy iron double doors of the warehouse blew completely off their hinges with a deafening explosion of splintered wood and flying iron.

Through the smoke and driving rain strode Luca Moretti.

He wasn't wearing his tailored suit. He wore a dark tactical coat, his face set in stone, his eyes glowing with a terrifying, demonic fury. Behind him swarmed a dozen armed Moretti enforcers, locking down every exit in seconds.

“Luca!” Camille shrieked, lowering her gun toward Emma’s temple. “Stay back or I swear to God—'

“Drop the weapon, Camille,” Luca’s voice cut through the cavernous room like a guillotine blade. It wasn't loud. It was terrifyingly quiet.

“Step back or she dies right now!” Camille screamed, her finger tightening on the trigger.

Luca didn't flinch. He raised his own weapon with lethal, sniper-like precision. But before he could fire, Emma made her move. Leveraging her weight against the wooden chair, she threw her entire body backward, slamming into the enforcer standing behind her while simultaneously kicking the underside of Camille’s wrist.

The revolver flew out of Camille’s hand, clattering harmlessly across the concrete.

In a split second, Luca closed the distance, his enforcers swarming the kidnappers like a pack of wolves. Within thirty seconds, the room was secured, Camille was pinned to the floor in handcuffs, and Luca was kneeling beside Emma, frantically slicing through her zip ties with a pocketknife.

As the plastic fell away, Emma rubbed her raw wrists. Before she could take a breath, Luca pulled her fiercely into his arms, burying his face in her neck, his broad shoulders trembling with the aftershocks of sheer terror.

“I’ve got you. You’re safe,” Luca whispered fiercely, his voice cracking. “I am never letting you out of my sight again.”
