Chapter 5 - The Emergency Quorum

The fiftieth-floor boardroom of Aquila Global Aviation was an architectural masterpiece of dark walnut, brushed steel, and floor-to-ceiling glass panels offering a panoramic view of Lake Michigan sparkling under the midnight moon.

Twelve men and women—the senior executives, regional directors, and legal counsels of the empire—sat around the massive conference table. When I pushed open the double doors and walked inside, every single person stood up in unison.

The silence in the room was absolute.

I walked slowly down the length of the room toward the high-backed leather chair at the head of the table—the seat my mother had occupied for thirty years.

Samuel Vance pulled the chair out for me. I nodded in thanks, sat down, and folded my hands neatly on the polished wood surface.

“Please, sit,” I said.

The executives settled back into their seats, their eyes fixed on me with a mix of cautious curiosity and profound respect. Most of them had known me as Eleanor’s quiet, unassuming daughter who occasionally sat in on board meetings as an observer. None of them knew the full extent of my digital forensics background or the state-level cyber investigations I had quietly managed for years while pretending to be a simple corporate housewife.

“I know why we are here,” I began, my voice carrying effortlessly across the large room. “The public narrative will frame tonight as a domestic dispute gone wrong. A billionaire husband caught in financial fraud by his grieving wife. But inside these walls, we treat this as what it truly is: a security breach.”

I opened the manila envelope Samuel had given me and slid several documents across the table toward the chief legal counsel, Arthur Pendelton.

“Mr. Pendelton, review the asset forfeiture filings for Holloway Capital. I want every single subsidiary, real estate holding, and liquid account transferred into the Mercer Family Foundation by 8:00 AM tomorrow. Leave Grant Holloway with nothing except the clothes he’s wearing in a county jail cell.”

Pendelton scanned the papers, his eyebrows lifting slightly before he nodded with a grim, approving smile. “Done, Madam Chairwoman. The legal framework was pre-approved by your mother’s estate trust provisions.”

“Good,” I said. “Now, let’s talk about the future of Aquila Global.”

For the next two hours, we worked with ruthless efficiency. We restructured regional supply chains, audited contractor vulnerabilities, and purged every remaining executive who had ties to Markus Reed or Grant Holloway’s shell syndicates. By the time the digital clock on the wall flipped to 2:00 AM, the empire was cleaner, stronger, and more secure than it had ever been.
