THE BRIDAL DRESS REVENGE / Chapter 1 / 5

Chapter 1 - The Ripped Lace and the Hard Slap**

The private bridal suite of the grand estate was quiet, bathed in the soft, golden light of late afternoon lamps, but the air inside was thick with tension. I stood before the tall antique mirror, my heart hammering a frantic rhythm against my ribs as I smoothed down the exquisite layers of silk and lace that made up my dream wedding gown. My veil was pinned securely in place, cascading like a waterfall of white tulle down my back, and I was only minutes away from hearing the processional march and walking down the aisle toward the man I loved.

Then, the door clicked open. Rachel slipped into the room, wearing her pale mint-green bridesmaid dress like a designer armor. She came in pretending to help, offering that sweet, syrupy smile she always wore when she wanted something.

“Just wanted to check on you, sweetie,” Rachel purred, stepping up close behind me in the mirror. “You look so nervous.”

Before I could answer, I felt her hands grip fiercely onto the delicate fabric at the small of my back. Her fingers dug in with sudden, malicious strength. The next second, a harsh, tearing sound echoed through the quiet room as the custom-fitted Chantilly lace tore open straight down the middle.

*RIP.*

My mother, who had just stepped out of the adjoining bathroom with my bouquet, screamed in absolute horror. My bridesmaids, who had been gathered near the doorway chatting, froze in their tracks, their jaws dropping. Rachel stood there holding a jagged piece of my wedding dress in her hand, flashing a fake, sickeningly innocent smile.

“Oops,” she said, her voice dripping with mock-apology. “It must have been too tight for you. I guess all those pre-wedding tastings caught up to you, didn't they?”

A hot wave of pure, unadulterated fury surged through my veins. Years of her subtle passive-aggression, her constant attempts to undermine me, and her obvious obsession with my fiancé culminated in this single, unforgivable moment. I didn't hesitate. I spun around and slapped her across the cheek.

*Crack.*

The sound echoed off the bridal suite walls like a pistol shot. Rachel stumbled back, clutching her stinging face, her fake innocence instantly melting into a mask of ugly shock.

“Emma!” I commanded, pointing sharply at my maid of honor. “Start recording right now!”
