Chapter 4 - The Courtroom and the Fall of Julian Vance**

The federal courtroom in downtown Denver was packed to absolute capacity on Friday morning. Media vans lined the street, local news outlets broadcasting live coverage of the sensational corporate scandal involving the disgraced tech CEO Julian Vance and his high-society mistress.
When the heavy oak doors opened, Julian and Victoria were led into the courtroom in matching orange jumpsuits, their wrists and ankles bound in heavy steel chains.
The proud, arrogant tech mogul who had once paraded around Cabo San Altos like a king looked completely hollowed out. His bespoke suit was replaced by coarse cotton, his hair was unwashed, and his eyes darted nervously across the crowded gallery.
When Julian caught sight of me sitting in the front row—flanked by Admiral Hector Sterling in full military uniform and my corporate attorney—he stopped dead in his tracks.
My posture was erect, my expression completely emotionless, wearing a sharp tailored black wool coat that radiated absolute authority.
Julian’s face drained of every drop of color. He opened his mouth, stammering frantically as federal marshals shoved him forward into the defendant’s chair.
“Genevieve! Please!” Julian cried out, looking back desperately over his shoulder. “It was a mistake! Victoria manipulated me! You know I love you—let’s talk about this!”
I didn't blink. I didn't flinch. I simply looked at him the way a scientist looks at a specimen under a microscope.
Judge Robert Vance—no relation to the defendant, thankfully—banged his gavel with a sharp, echoing crack.
“Order in the court!” Judge Vance commanded, glaring down at Julian and Victoria with open disgust. “The defendants are facing formal grand jury indictments on multiple counts of first-degree attempted murder, conspiracy, grand larceny, wire fraud, and corporate embezzlement. How do the defendants plead?”
Julian’s public defender stood up quickly, sweating profusely under the judicial glare. “Your... your honor, my client enters a plea of not guilty, and we request a reasonable bond hearing—”
“Denied,” Judge Vance interrupted flatly. “Given the staggering volume of military-grade satellite evidence, Coast Guard body-cam footage, financial wire trails, and direct witness testimony from Admiral Sterling and the victim, these defendants represent an extreme flight risk and an immediate danger to society.”
Judge Vance slammed his gavel down a second time.
“Bail is permanently revoked. Both defendants are remanded to the custody of the federal penitentiary system without the possibility of bond, pending a fast-tracked jury trial.”
Victoria let out a shrill, hysterical sob, burying her face in her hands as her dreams of high-society luxury evaporated into thin air. Julian slumped forward against the defense table, his shoulders shaking uncontrollably as the heavy steel handcuffs clicked loudly, locking his fate in place.
As the federal marshals dragged them away toward the holding cells, Julian cast one final, tear-filled, desperate glance toward me.

I turned my head away, refusing to give him even the satisfaction of my gaze.
