Chapter 2 - The 4K Trap**

The camera lens focused sharply on the grotesque tableau inside the master suite. Every agonizing detail was captured in crystal-clear, high-definition 4K: my mother’s claw-like grip on my pregnant wife’s hair, Sloan’s manic swinging of the sledgehammer, the open safe spilling its confidential contents onto the carpet, and the vile, venomous words dripping from their lips.
Four agonizing minutes passed. Every single second felt like an eternity, stretching the last remaining shreds of my human empathy regarding those two women until they snapped entirely. They were no longer family. They were criminal intruders who had declared war on my sanctuary and threatened my unborn child.
Once the live footage safely and securely synced to my encrypted, off-site cloud server with an audible digital confirmation tone, I lowered my phone.
My thumb hovered over the keypad. I dialed three digits that would change the trajectory of our lives forever.
“911, what is your emergency?” the dispatcher's calm, professional voice answered immediately.
I didn't whisper. I stepped out of the shadows and strode deliberately toward the master bedroom threshold. I let my voice echo loudly, chillingly down the hallway—icy, sharp, and deliberately engineered to slice right through the bedroom door like a guillotine blade.
"My name is Thane Sterling. 4500 Ocean View Drive. My home is currently being burglarized. Two violent intruders are actively destroying a secure safe and physically assaulting my pregnant wife. Send armed tactical units and an ambulance immediately!"
Inside the bedroom, the deafening, metallic clang of the sledgehammer stopped instantly mid-swing.
The sudden silence was deafening. The two women, struck by a sudden, paralyzing bolt of sheer, unadulterated panic, snapped their heads toward the doorway.
Corrine released Alora’s hair as if her fingers had been scorched by fire. Sloan dropped the heavy sledgehammer; it crashed onto the hardwood floor with a sickening thud, narrowly missing Alora’s foot.
They stared at me with wide, horrified eyes, their faces turning chalk-white as the realization of what I had just said—and what I had clearly witnessed—hit them with the force of a freight train.
“Thane...?” Corrine stammered, her voice pitching upward into a pathetic, trembling squeak as she took an instinctive step backward. “Thane, honey, thank God! You—you missed your flight! Oh, thank goodness you’re here! These... these terrible things were happening, we just walked in and found—”

“Shut your mouth,” I whispered.
The two words carried more lethal weight than a gunshot. I slowly lowered my phone, sliding it back into my pocket. What awaited them on the other side of this door was no longer a son, nor a brother. It was the CEO of Sterling Global, executing a hostile takeover of the parasites who thought they could devour his life from the inside out.
