Chapter 10 - Where I Belong

That evening, after the laboratories were quiet and the last guests had filtered out into the warm evening air, I walked up to the rooftop terrace of the center.
The city stretched out beneath me in a brilliant panorama of neon and starlight. The skyline was vast, pulsing with life, ambition, and endless possibility.
I remembered Eric’s words in the hospital room—his cruel taunt that the accident had put me where I belonged.
He had been right, in a way. Just not in the way he thought.
I didn't belong in a cage, or under someone else's thumb, or broken on a freezing highway. I belonged right here—standing tall above the city, architect of my own destiny, completely unbreakable.
