Chapter 7 - Reclaiming the Fortress

The next forty-eight hours were a blur of intense, systematic reclamation.
I didn't just change the locks. I hired a private cybersecurity firm to audit every digital device in the house, stripping Vanessa’s remote administrative access from our smart home systems, security cameras, and cloud storage accounts.
I contacted my corporate legal counsel, Marcus Vance, who immediately filed an emergency ex-parte motion for a temporary restraining order, full physical custody protection for Ethan, and a total freeze on all joint financial accounts tied to Vanessa’s name.
When Marcus reviewed the brown notebook in my office on Sunday afternoon, even his seasoned, jaded eyes widened with shock.
"This isn't just domestic manipulation, Arthur," Marcus said, laying the notebook flat on my desk. "This is a textbook premeditated financial extraction scheme. If she executed this custody transfer, she would have legally controlled Ethan’s beneficiary trust until he turned eighteen. She was setting herself up to inherit your entire corporate portfolio in the event of a tragic 'domestic accident.'"
A cold chill ran down my spine. Accident.
The thought of what could have happened if I hadn't come home early from Seattle made my stomach heave.
"Where is she now?" I asked, looking across the desk at Marcus.
"Staying at a boutique hotel downtown, consulting with a divorce attorney who probably hasn't seen this evidence yet," Marcus replied, closing his laptop. "She thinks she can drag this out through standard mediation. She doesn't realize we're heading straight for criminal indictment."

"Good," I said, my voice resolute. "Let her spend her retainer fees on an attorney who can't save her."
