Chapter 3 - The Counter-Strike**

While Brandon and his parents sat in their Franklin dining room smugly discussing how they would force me to sign away my inheritance and apologize on bended knee, my father’s legal team was executing a lightning-fast counter-offensive that would dismantle their entire world brick by brick.
Marcus Vance didn't just file an injunction against the fraudulent lien; he launched an exhaustive forensic audit into Charles’s real estate development company, Whitaker Enterprises. It took less than forty-eight hours for the investigators to uncover a massive web of illegal zoning kickbacks, tax evasion, and fraudulent loan applications totaling over three million dollars.
Furthermore, because Brandon had physically threatened me and attempted to assault me—backed by the medical records from the emergency room detailing his injuries sustained while perpetrating domestic abuse—my attorneys secured an emergency protective order and filed for an immediate, fault-based annulment of our five-day marriage on the grounds of fraud, duress, and physical endangerment.
On Thursday morning, exactly one week after our wedding, a convoy of three sleek black SUVs pulled up unannounced to the front gates of my in-laws’ grand estate in Franklin.
Inside the house, Charles, Beatrice, and Brandon were sitting down to breakfast when heavy knocks echoed against the solid oak front door.
Charles strode angrily to the door, swinging it open with an arrogant scowl, expecting delivery drivers or local tradesmen. Instead, he found two county sheriff deputies flanked by Marcus Vance and a pair of federal marshals.
“Charles Whitaker?” the lead deputy announced formally, holding up a stack of heavy legal documents. “You are being served with a federal warrant for wire fraud, forgery, and falsification of real estate titles.”
Charles’s face drained of all color, his jaw dropping open. “This is a mistake! My family has friends in local government! You can’t do this!”
“Mr. Whitaker,” Marcus Vance stepped forward, his voice dripping with cool, aristocratic authority. “I represent Clara Sterling. Not only are your fraudulent liens against her family property nullified, but federal investigators have frozen every corporate and personal bank account associated with Whitaker Enterprises. You are completely, irrevocably ruined.”

Before Charles could protest, the heavy steel handcuffs clicked tightly around his wrists.
