Chapter 4 - The Legal Disassembly**

By midnight, the master bathroom had been cleared of broken glass, but the emotional wreckage of the evening was irreversible.
While Julian sat in the downstairs living room with his head buried in his hands, completely paralyzed by the realization of what his mother had dragged him into, I packed a small duffel bag with my essentials. Aunt Beatrice stood by the bedroom door, helping me steady my breathing and offering unwavering support.
“You’re not staying here tonight, Clara,” Beatrice stated firmly, handing me my coat. “You’re coming to my guest house. My family lawyer will meet us there in the morning to file the restraining orders and property protection injunctions.”
Before I could walk out the door, Julian intercepted us in the hallway. He looked pale, haggard, and utterly broken.
“Clara... please,” he choked out, taking a hesitant step forward. “Don't leave. I’m so sorry. I was blind... I let her poison my mind, but I swear to you, I didn't know about the forgery. I didn't know she threw that mirror at you—”
“You hesitated, Julian,” I interrupted, my voice steady, cold, and devoid of the warmth he had taken for granted for years. “When your mother accused me of trying to harm our unborn child, you didn't defend me. You looked at me with fear in your eyes. That hesitation destroyed whatever marriage we had left.”
“I was confused—”
“No,” I said firmly, walking past him toward the stairs. “You were conditioned. And until you unlearn every toxic word your mother ever whispered into your ear, I cannot and will not let you anywhere near my child.”
The next forty-eight hours unfolded with swift, merciless legal precision.
Aunt Beatrice’s attorney, a veteran litigator named Marcus Vance, filed emergency criminal charges against Eleanor for forgery, wire fraud, uttering a false instrument, and aggravated domestic assault resulting from the shattered mirror incident. Armed with security camera footage from our study—which clearly captured Eleanor hurling the antique mirror at my face when I caught her stealing the deed—the district attorney issued an immediate arrest warrant.
When Eleanor was taken into custody at her suburban home two days later, she shrieked and wailed about how her son would rescue her.
She miscalculated once again.

Julian didn't post her bail. In fact, following Aunt Beatrice’s firm guidance and a long session with a licensed family therapist, Julian formally cut all ties with his mother, signing an affidavit supporting the prosecution’s case and testifying before the grand jury regarding the fraudulent property deeds.
