Chapter 4 - The Legal Counter-Attack**

The next forty-eight hours unfolded like a meticulously executed military campaign.
While Marcus spent Sunday night banging on our bedroom door begging for forgiveness before I finally had him formally evicted by local law enforcement, Victor Vance and his legal team were already working around the clock. By Monday morning at 9:00 a.m., an emergency injunction had been filed at the county courthouse.
Because we lived in a state that took physical assault and premeditated conspiracy against a pregnant spouse with extreme legal severity, Victor attached Aunt Brenda’s certified text message screenshots, the medical report from the urgent care clinic where I had my bruised shoulder and face documented, and sworn affidavits from three family members who witnessed Eleanor’s violent outburst at the baby shower.
The judge didn't hesitate.
By Tuesday afternoon, Marcus was served with divorce papers, a strict no-contact order prohibiting him or his mother from coming within five hundred feet of me, my home, or my workplace, and a temporary custody order granting me sole legal and physical decision-making authority over the unborn child upon delivery.
When Marcus realized the magnitude of what his mother’s toxic interference had wrought, his panic reached apocalyptic proportions.
He tried calling my cell phone fifty times a day until I blocked his number. He sent frantic emails detailing how his mother had manipulated him, how he was cutting her out of his life completely, and how he was willing to sign away his entire salary just to keep our family together.
Eleanor, meanwhile, attempted to fight back through her own high-priced defense attorney, claiming the text messages were out of context, that the slap was a “defensive reaction,” and that I was weaponizing my pregnancy to alienate her son.
But Victor Vance destroyed their defense in a single morning during the emergency injunction hearing.
Standing in the sunlit courtroom, Victor projected Aunt Brenda’s text messages onto the massive digital courtroom screens, alongside a recorded voicemail Eleanor had left on Marcus’s phone two days before the baby shower, explicitly plotting how to manufacture evidence of my “mental instability.”
The judge listened with a face carved from stone.
“Mrs. Sterling,” the judge addressed Eleanor directly, his voice sharp and unforgiving, “your actions do not reflect the concern of a grandmother. They reflect the calculated malice of a predator attempting to subvert the legal rights of a mother. If you or your son violate this restraining order by so much as a single centimeter, I will personally sign a warrant for your immediate arrest and contempt of court.”
Eleanor sat at the defense table, her face twitching with suppressed rage, realizing that her lifelong habit of controlling her son had finally destroyed everything he held dear.

Beside her, Marcus sat with his head bowed, weeping silently into his hands as he realized that his cowardice had cost him his wife, his child, and his future.
