Chapter 4 - The Corporate Coup and the Final Betrayal

Before Dario could reach out to touch his son, the security monitors mounted on the far wall flickered violently.
The screen flashed red. An encrypted emergency broadcast from Aegis Capital’s legal counsel lit up the room.
Mara’s phone buzzed aggressively in her pocket. She pulled it out, her eyes scanning the urgent message from her chief operating officer: “Emergency! Julian Vance and a rogue faction of the Lupari board just executed a hostile takeover of the Swiss accounts. They’re using forged proxy signatures to liquidate our assets and frame you for federal securities fraud!”
Mara’s blood ran cold. "Julian..." she whispered in horror. "He must have stolen my corporate credentials from my hotel suite while we were at the gala."
Dario stood up instantly, all traces of personal shock instantly incinerated by a sudden, lethal wave of cold, calculated fury. The mafia Don was back.
"Julian Vance," Dario muttered, his voice dropping an octave into a terrifying, gravelly register. "The rat I should have buried eight years ago."
Dario tapped his encrypted comms link on his lapel. "Dante. Mobilize the enforcer division. Lock down every exit from the financial district. Freeze all corporate assets tied to Julian Vance, and bring him to me on the basement floor of the primary vault. Alive, if he's lucky."
"Dario, wait," Mara said, stepping forward, her executive instincts kicking in. "Julian doesn't have the legal clearance to execute a full liquidation alone. He must have a high-ranking insider inside your own board backing him up."
Dario looked at her, a dark, dangerous grin touching his lips. "Of course he does, my love. My uncle, Marcus Lupari, has been trying to usurp my seat for a decade. He thought he could use your corporate arrival as a smoke screen to steal your firm and frame you at the same time."
Dario turned to her, his silver eyes burning with fierce absolute protection. "Stay here with the twins. Lock the doors. I'm going to clean house."

"No," Mara said firmly, grabbing her briefcase from the desk and snapping it open. She pulled out a thick stack of certified international audit logs and secondary proxy keys. "This isn't just your war anymore, Dario. They touched my empire. We go together."
