Chapter 4 - The Trap at Pier 54

Forty-eight hours later, the rain had turned into a howling blizzard, blanketing the New York harbor in a thick, blinding veil of white. Down at Pier 54, an abandoned cargo dock jutting out into the freezing Hudson River, a solitary luxury sedan idled against the snow-drifted asphalt.

Inside the freezing warehouse, my husband, Marcus, paced back and forth, rubbing his hands together in nervous anticipation. He wore an expensive tailored overcoat, his breath pluming in the freezing air as he checked his watch for the third time in a minute.

"Where are they?" Marcus muttered to his associates, two heavy-set thugs standing by the loading bay doors. "The buyers said midnight. If they don't show up with the wire transfer soon, I'll be ruined."

"You're already ruined, Marcus," a cold, metallic voice echoed from the shadows of the rafters.

Marcus spun around, his face draining of all color.

Out of the darkness stepped Elias Vance, flanked by twenty armed enforcers clad in tactical gear, their assault rifles raised and locked. Behind them, two more men stepped forward, dragging a heavily bound, whimpering figure between them—one of the rival syndicate's top lieutenants.

"Elias... Vance," Marcus stammered, stumbling backward until his spine hit a stack of wooden crates. "I... I don't know what you're talking about. I'm just looking for my wife—"

"Your wife and daughters are currently sleeping in a warm, guarded penthouse suite while you stand out here trying to sell them to my executioners," Elias interrupted, his voice cutting through the warehouse like a butcher's knife. He closed the distance between them with slow, measured strides until he towered over Marcus, who shrank back in sheer terror.

"You... you took them!" Marcus shrieked, panic overriding his survival instincts. "Those are my kids! Give them back to me! You have no legal right—"

"Legal right?" Elias let out a dark, humorless laugh that echoed off the corrugated steel walls. "You forfeited any right to human decency the moment you threw a mother and two newborn babies into a freezing blizzard to die. You wanted an heir, Marcus? Well, you're about to inherit a very different kind of legacy."

Before Marcus could scream, Elias signaled with a single flick of his wrist. Two enforcers stepped forward, grabbed Marcus by the collar, and tossed him hard onto the concrete floor at Elias’s feet.

"We didn't come here to negotiate, Marcus," Elias said coldly, pulling a heavy silver lighter from his pocket and flipping it open. "We came to settle accounts."
