Chapter 2 - The Secrets Entombed in Plaster**

The police officers instantly halted their detainment of the thrashing stepmother, their attention snapping sharply toward the section of the wall Lily was pointing at. The air in the foyer grew instantly heavier, the temperature seeming to plummet as a collective dread gripped everyone present. Father stood up slowly, his legs feeling like lead as he walked toward the floral wallpaper, his hand trembling uncontrollably as he reached out to touch the bizarre, horrifying anomaly protruding from the plaster.

The lock of blonde hair was fine, silky, and eerily familiar. It was a shade of gold he had looked at every single day for ten years—the exact hair color of his first wife, Emily, who had mysteriously vanished two years prior, supposedly running off to another country and abandoning her family without a single word. At the time, the stepmother had conveniently produced a handwritten farewell letter, weeping tears of sympathy as she moved into the mansion to help pick up the pieces. Father had trusted her completely, comforted by her gentle demeanor and her willingness to care for his grieving children.

Now, standing inches away from the wall, the horrific truth began to fracture his reality. The wall wasn't just a partition dividing the foyer from the drawing room; it was a hollowed-out cavity.

"Officer," Father whispered, his voice cracking with a mixture of raw grief and mounting terror. "Get something to cut this open. Now."

One of the patrol officers stepped forward with a heavy-duty utility knife, his jaw set tight as he sliced cleanly through the aging wallpaper. With a sickening ripping sound, the paper peeled back to reveal layer upon layer of thick, dense plaster underneath. The officer pulled out a heavy crowbar from his tactical kit, wedging it firmly into a hairline crack in the drywall, and pressed down with all his might. The plaster fractured with a sharp, echoing crack, sending a cloud of dusty white debris billowing into the clean air of the hallway.

As the dust settled, the horrific reality was laid bare before their eyes. Behind the wall was not brick or insulation, but a dark, damp cavity. Wrapped tightly within heavy plastic sheeting and sealed meticulously behind fresh plaster was a human form. The lock of blonde hair was connected to a scalp resting against the inner wooden frame, preserved in the airtight, airless tomb of the mansion's original structural core.

The stepmother shrieked from the floor, her composure completely shattering as she realized her meticulously constructed empire of lies had collapsed in a single moment. She thrashed against the handcuffs, screaming curses, but the officers ignored her entirely, staring in stunned horror at the ghastly discovery hidden within the very walls of the home they shared.
