Chapter 1 - The Tear in the Wallpaper**

The heavy oak doors of the grand foyer crashed open with a violent shudder that echoed through the marble-pillared hallway, sending a shockwave of adrenaline through the air. Father burst into the mansion, flanked immediately by three armed police officers whose heavy boots pounded furiously against the imported tiles. He had returned home expecting a nightmare, driven by a gut-wrenching intuition that something unspeakable had transpired within the walls of his own estate while he was away on business. His eyes frantically scanned the expansive entryway, desperate to find his children alive, terrified of what horrors might be waiting in the shadows cast by the crystal chandeliers.
Just moments before, the atmosphere in the manor had been suffocating with malice. The cruel stepmother stood over the young boy, her fingers gripping his collar with a vice-like cruelty, her eyes flashing with venomous threat as she promised him a shallow grave. The boy had taken a brutal, punishing strike across the face, refusing to break his stance as he shielded his trembling little sister behind his small frame. His eyes had burned with an unyielding, primal rage, whispering a secret that had frozen the blood in the wicked woman's veins: "Touch her again, and everyone will know what you buried." She had sneered back, confident that her secrets were safely entombed away from the prying eyes of the living world.
Father rushed forward, his face pale with panic, immediately grabbing the wicked woman by the arm and forcefully knocking her down to the marble floor. One of the police officers quickly stepped in, slapping cold steel handcuffs around her wrists as she shrieked in furious indignation, claiming it was all a misunderstanding. Father dropped to his knees, pulling both of his traumatized children into a fierce, suffocating embrace, tears streaming down his cheeks as he murmured apologies over and over again, believing in his heart that the nightmare was finally over and that they were safe at last.
Yet, the chill in the air refused to dissipate. The silence that followed the chaos was heavy, unnatural, and suffocatingly dense.
Little Lily pulled away from her father’s tight embrace just an inch, her small frame still shivering uncontrollably from the terror she had endured. Her tear-stained face was deathly pale, and her lower lip quivered as she stared past her father’s shoulder. She raised her tiny, trembling hand into the air, her finger extending slowly to point directly at the vintage floral wallpaper lining the grand hallway.

Father turned his head, following the direction of her tiny finger, his breath catching painfully in his throat. There, sticking out hideously from a tiny, jagged tear in the vintage wallpaper, was a single, unmistakable lock of long, blonde human hair.
